Data recovery firm taps into growing market.
Marietta, GA February 9, 2015 –– Atlanta-based Discovery Computers and Forensics has been retrieving “lost data” for companies and individuals for over 20 years. Increasingly, however, the data in question needs to be provided for litigation purposes. In both civil and criminal matters, electronic data on a computer hard drive, smart phone, or tablet that has been hidden, deleted or otherwise damaged can be crucial to the case. Whether it’s a disgruntled former employee who “wiped out” his computer before leaving, an individual trying to hide evidence of fraud, sexual harassment or embezzlement, or a spouse trying to obtain proof of infidelity in a divorce case, forensic data examination is now one of the fastest growing tools of the legal industry.
Digital forensics requires a high level of proficiency in data storage techniques to safely work on various devices without tainting the evidence. In fact, in order to recover the data or determine whether it has been tampered with, deleted or damaged by the user, examiners must search through large amounts of data for specific phrases, essential files, or other pertinent information. These examiners not only find deleted information, but can often show when the data was accessed, moved or deleted, and by whom.
Attorneys, insurance companies, employers, and individuals engage Discovery Computers and Forensics to find important evidence. This process includes correctly developing the required reports and maintaining the chain of custody for the evidence in question. This requires an intimate understanding of the legal issues that surround the collection and analysis of electronic data, knowing exactly what to look for, and the ability to sort through enormous amounts of information.
